Languages

Many people in the towns, cities and resorts speak a variety of languages, which are English, German, Russian, French, Italian and Turkish.

In the rural village, it is mostly Bulgarian or Turkish or both which is spoken, so some understanding would be of help to you in the more rural places, but people are very friendly and always willing to help.

Transport

Taxis are reasonably priced, but always ask first. Public transport is very good value.

Car hire is also available at a reasonable cost, but do remember when filling up with fuel, still very few garages or shops take credit cards always carry some cash.

Currency

The lev is used in Bulgaria, but at the airports many things are priced in Euros, the Lev is fixed at the moment to the Euro at 1.95, whilst they await entry into the ERM.

Cuisine

Anything from traditional Bulgarian dishes to Pizzas and Hamburgers.  Many restaurants have one night for traditional singing and dancing.
